What is Beverley Glen Toronto?

Beverley Glen is a residential neighbourhood in the southernmost part of Toronto. It is situated between the Lawrence Wiilie Sadler Linear Park to the west and the Etobicoke Creek to the east.

The neighbourhood is named after the Beverley family who established a farm in the area in the 1860s. The farmhouse still stands today and can be visited by appointment.

The history of Beverley Glen traces back to the early 1860s, when the farm it sits on was purchased by the St. Regis family. The farmhouse became a private residence in 1898, and was then purchased by the Feildes family in 1930. The property was then sold in 1965 to the Whitaker family and is now part of the Whitaker Residence.

In the early 1900s, a neighbourhood park was laid out in the area, and in the 1960s, a waterway was dredged through the property to create the blood blvd, which links Lake Ontario to the St. Clair River.

With the rise of the city and suburbs, interest in the former farmland waned, and the area became a favourite with developers. It also became a notorious location for high-rise condo development, with the final tower being completed in 2011.

In the 1960s, the city of Toronto purchased a large portion of the northern border of the Whitaker Residence for the widening of the arterial Don River. This area is now part of the Toronto Islands Conservation Authority, and is known as the Islands National Wildlife Refuge.

In recent years, much attention has been paid to the highrise condo developments planned for the northern border of the Whitaker Residence. While most of the attention has been on the eastern end of the development, the western border of the Whitaker Residence has largely been overlooked.
